Carol will be leading some Songwriting & Writing Workshops this spring and summer:
Write Around the World
Carol is a certified affiliate of the Amherst Writers and Artists Method (AWA) which hosts fundraising workshops online every May to introduce more people to this wonderful way of writing in community online and in person. For more info about AWA click here.
Every May, AWA workshop leaders and writers across the globe Write Around the World. Leaders help raise funds (click here to learn more about volunteering) by offering donation-based writing groups. Proceeds from each session support AWA and its mission. New writers are introduced to the AWA method and given daily opportunities to write. Writers of all backgrounds come together to celebrate the unique creativity in each other’s voices.
Most groups are hosted online between May 1st and 31st, with open registration, sliding scale from $20-40. Carol will be leading these workshops:
Hermits & Flash! with Carol Teal
Try your hand at Hermit Crab essays and Flash Fiction/Nonfiction. We’ll look at examples and write to prompts that will steer our muse in those directions. Who knows where we’ll end up? There will be an opportunity to share your writing with the group and get supportive feedback about what’s working! Whatever happens, it’s sure to be fun!

Writing Memoirs
July 15 – 19
Telling stories from life and memories, this creative writing course will focus on memoirs. Each day there will be discussions on different aspects of writing including themes, how to structure memoirs and engage readers. There will be daily time for writing your stories from memory or as elicited by prompts. Share some of your fresh writing with the class and give and receive feedback on what is strong and working in your writing. Develop your craft using writing exercises and prompts that will target specific writing skills.
Courting the Muse: Writing Flash Fiction/Nonfiction Workshop
July 20
Flash fiction and nonfiction writing is generally stories under 1,000 words. Dive into short form writing as you explore what makes a flash story work through readings, discussion of craft skills and writing to prompts. There will be an opportunity to read your fresh work to the class (optional), get feedback on what’s strong and working and ideas for further development. Opportunities for publishing flash work will be shared. Explore the flash form in a supportive writing environment. This workshop is suitable for both experienced writers and those just beginning to explore the muse.
Music & Magic of Songwriting
July 22- 26
Do you have something to say and want to express it in a song? Do you want to start writing your own songs in a supportive environment? – or – Are you an experienced songwriter interested in being challenged to try new song forms and methods? – or – Maybe you’d just benefit from a group that expects you to finish some of those unfinished songs! In this course there will be daily songwriting assignments, class sharing, individual song coaching and a culminating class performance. All level of experience is welcome. The ability to play an instrument is helpful but not necessary.
